Local veterans honored at Tupelo ceremony

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) – Across north Mississippi, many communities held events on Monday to honor local heroes on Veterans Day.

In Tupelo, people came together Monday morning at Veterans Park.

The ceremony honored those who have served in all branches of the military.

One local veteran said he’s thankful the community recognizes the sacrifices made by those who have joined in the fight for freedom.

“I have four sons; three are veterans,” said Ben Inman, a local Marine. “My father-in-law was a World War II veteran. So we appreciate, as a whole family, the community giving some small measure of recognition for what we have tried to do for our fellow citizens.”

Col. John Nipp of the Mississippi Army National Guard spoke during the program.
