Treating coronavirus in New York left emotional, physical toll on Corinth nurse

CORINTH, Miss. (WTVA) – A nurse recalled the chilling scenes she encountered while volunteering at a New York City hospital and the emotional impact it left on her.

This week’s Hometown Hero is Maggie Macias, who is a travel nurse.

While working in Orlando, Florida, she got the call to help treat coronavirus patients in Boston. Soon after, her supervisor asked if she would voluntarily go to New York City, the hardest-hit area in the country.

Leaving behind a husband and four young children, she set out.

WTVA reporter Erin Wilson spoke with Macias about her experience. Watch her story in the video above.
