Trucking companies adapt to coronavirus pandemic

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) – Truck drivers are feeling the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

R&B Trucking Inc. has been operating in Tupelo since 1993, and owner Frank Fritz said he’s never been in a situation like this before.

“I’ve never seen this before and I don’t ever want to see it again,” Fritz said.

Companies have seen a decrease in the price of freight, which is causing owners to decide whether or not the haul would be worth it.

For Fritz, receiving Payroll Protection Program funds will help alleviate some of the financial strain.

“I got it today. So I feel comfortable that we will make it another month because I was using my own savings and I was depleting it pretty quickly making payroll,” Fritz said.

With things slowly returning to normal, Fritz is hopeful that things will get back on track.

“It’s in God’s control, we’re going to be alright and we will get through this,” Fritz said.
